In addition, a non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 per year and $1.00 per month for Non-participating infants (for insurance purposes) will be charged. Field trips and outings may have small fees that the venues charge. Siblings get a 30% discount.
For families who need financial assistance, there are two programs through the college Parent Education Office. Both require that the parent complete and turn in an application each quarter.
Jean Payne Scholarships For families below 135% of the poverty level. The scholarship pays 50% of whatever monthly preschool fee the co-op charges for your child(ren). No late applications will be processed. (The specific income-eligibility guidelines for Tuition Waivers and for Jean Payne Scholarships are listed on the application. Forms are provided at the co-op.)
Having a snack is part of the classroom schedule. The parents take turns providing a nutritious snack that is conscious of any allergies present in the class-room and school, and mindful of choking hazards.
Parents also rotate who comes a few minutes early to help the facilitator with setting up the different activity centers and projects for the day, and who stays a few minutes later to help with the more detailed cleaning like vacuuming and taking out garbage. All parents choose a job specific to them to perform periodically throughout the year (like keeping the paint cupboard clean etc). All parents are required to volunteer for one “cleaning day” (which is held once a month for a few hours) one time during the year. During this time, all toys are disinfected, and all nooks and crannies get “cleaning” attention. This keeps our co-op as germ-free as possible, and as organized and tidy as possible, making it more enjoyable for all.
Classes discuss and plan field trips and non-school organized outings. Examples in the past have included going to the Spokane County Fair, Green Bluff Orchards to pick apples and pumpkins in the fall, Mobius Children’s Museum, Spokane Elite Gymnastics, Soccer Tots, Cat Tails, Turn Bull Wildlife Refuge, the YMCA swimming pool, Great Harvest Bread Company, the Post Office, White’s Boot Factory, Felts Field Airport, Whimsical Wheel Pottery, Fire Station, and River Front Park carousel and picnic grounds – to name a few! These outings are additional and optional, and may occur outside of the regular co-op class time. Siblings are often welcome to join in the fun.
